One of my most personal projects. Designed a one of a kind boutonniere for my wedding. It did not true to who I am to use a traditional floral boutonniere. The final design was a ceramic 3D printed flower with a magnetic back clasp. White for myself, black for the groomsmen, and gray for the fathers of the bride and groom.
The greatest struggle for me was to find the right level of meaning and personality in the design. Experimented with adding traditional Irish linework, or a secondary functional element. At the end of the day I focused on simplicity and beauty while maintaining the unique material and manufacturing method.
Working with Kwiabo to create the first round of fully ceramic prototypes made it very clear that I needed to make the floral design much more clear and bold. As with the 3D ceramic process small details are easily lost.
